How to prevent a fuel tank from leaking:
Fuel tanks usually leak when there is an overpressure in the tank due to air and fuel expanding from heat. Take this into account by filling the tank up to a maximum of 70% and keeping the vent as open as possible. Also, try to keep the tank out of direct sunlight.
When the vent is completely closed and the contents heat up, the fuel will try to find a way out. This often occurs between the connector and the tank, halfway through the connector via the thread of the hose tail, and/or between the hose tail and the fuel hose.
Leaks between the tank and the connector are typically resolved by tightening the connector slightly to allow the rubber sealing ring to function properly.
Leaks halfway through the connector at the thread of the hose tail can be fixed by adding some Teflon tape, similar to how you would with water pipe fittings.
Leaks between the hose tail and the fuel hose can be resolved by tightening the hose clamp/tie-wrap securely.
By following the above guidelines, the fuel tank should no longer leak when used correctly.
